September 10, 2004She Who WIll SurviveI have a friend I spoke with last night. It's been at least a couple of months since she and I were able to talk. She made me promise to write about her. I wish I could share her with all of you, but she's got a secret blog that I am sworn not to reveal. She may have a public one soon, and when she does, with her permission I'll share it then. I am also supposed to swear my neverending and undying love for said friend. There ya go, kid. Heh. In all honesty, this young lady has been a longtime reader, email friend, and phone chat pal. Over time, I've got to know her pretty well and, hopefully, help her with a lot of challenges she has faced over the past few months. Our relationship has given me much deeper insights into how others work and think and feel. Often is the time when I have mused about how she has reacted and dealt with things to help me understand others and thereby help them. I cannot go into many great details here for the time being. I will say some though. This young lady has such an incredible amount of strength, a strength I initially doubted. In the beginning, I didn't think she would follow through with what she and any thinking person knew that she needed to do. She surprised me and stood up and did it. At times, I feared she would slide back into a place she knew she should not be in for herself and those around her. She came through anyways. It's my nature to treat folks I meet with a measure of respect. In my estimation, most folks just keep that measure--gaining little and losing little. And then there are the few for whom, I lose almost all respect for and typically cut ties with. And then there are a very few who earn respect from me far and beyond what I normally would just offer. This young lady is one of those few. She's one I can share things with and get insights from when I need them. As another friend and I discussed last night, it's sometimes stunning how the community of those who read and interact with blogs and those who write them can bring about such great friendships. I am very fortunate to have met this strong young lady I promised to write about today. She's a friend with my deep respect for what she has endured, done, and her resolve to face it through the next few difficult weeks. She has a few more fights ahead of her, but after reading her latest posts and talking last night, I know she is not just equal, but greater than the challenge. When she gets a new blog and I'm allowed to reveal it, I will. I cannot wait to share her with all of you--I'm sure you will cherish her as much as I and others do. Howdy!
Welcome to my humble little corner of the blogosphere! Not too many rules here--love your neighbor, go easy on the brews, and don't shoot the jukebox. Make yourself at home and remember Momma don't like for you to put your feet on the kitchen table.
