February 28, 2004Airborne Sissy Gonna Take A Lil' Trip!Why am I up at 3 a.m.? Because I'm back on an Airborne schedule. Except this time it's not my airborne schedule; it's the sis's. Folks, my sister will be boarding a C-130 this moning along with a group of state dignitaries and a press contingent (she's the press) to fly from Little Rock Air Force Base to Ft. Polk, Louisiana, to cover the departure ceremonies of the Arkansas National Guard's 39th Infantry Brigade. The 39th is headed to Iraq and tomorrow will be the ceremonial sendoff. Now, for some of my fellow Airborne alumni out there, get this--they're putting in airline standard passenger seats for them! WTF?! I was hoping the sis would get a taste of what it was really like to fly in a '130 en route to jumping out. Alas, it wasn't to be. The Air Force wants to assure the press and the dignitaries are comfortable. That and bunch of civilians crowded into those uncomfortable benches we rode could lead to an unfortunate situation. I suppose it's better that they get chairs. In any event, I'll be off today haunting Little Rock and seeing some old friends, getting measured for a tuxedo, visiting Dad at the fire station, and generally trying to stay out of trouble. Also, I must give one kick hat tip to my ole pal Stasia for posting the code for the Category and Date Archives in drop down forms. Now I have them, too!
