January 12, 2004Burning the Candle Both Ends At A TimeGentle readers, if you're wondering why the posting is so very scarce, I have a special treat for you today. As I have told you before, we have people coming from all over the country to help with the campaign. With many, many college interns in the campaign spending their winter break here getting a taste of politics (some for the first time), you can imagine just how sane madness can occur. A New Years' Eve in Manchester, New Hampshire during a primary is quite the unique experience. Further, though we battle out every day and into the evening, as the later evening approaches, most campaigns lay down our political swords and meet as friends at the various nightspots. As I have advised several ofo our folks, do not date or hook up within the campaign, but find someone from another campaign. Today, I found an article that captures the campaign life fairly well. The Washington Post covered our New Year´s Eve frolics. At the very end of the article, you will find where your humble correspondent gathered all of the Southerner interns and like-minded folk to regale the crowd with a rousing rendition of a staple Southern song. I´m sure if you had read the article you´d have seen my fingerprints all over it. Keep watching the campaign and look for the fingerprints. Heh. Here´s a clip from the article - Bars here close at 1 tonight, so they don't have much time. Also this might be the last night like this. The New Hampshire campaign is heading into its final stretch; everyone will be crazy busy and pretty soon the underdogs might have to go after each other harder, straining the easy rapport. In the corner, some Clark interns are singing David Allen Coe's "You Never Even Call Me by My Name," playing on the jukebox. UPDATE - For those of you interested in the weather, yes, it got very, very cold this past week. Last night, we had about 4 inches of snow. On Wednesday, we´re supposed to have a high of 5, much like Gephardt´s numbers here, and a low of -6, see Kerry´s drop.

Howdy!
Welcome to my humble little corner of the blogosphere! Not too many rules here--love your neighbor, go easy on the brews, and don't shoot the jukebox. Make yourself at home and remember Momma don't like for you to put your feet on the kitchen table.
