A Single Southern Guy In America

La Mancha Man

I have been meaning for some time to write a little more in depth about what the teaser for this site means.

The epic ramblings of a young professional in the South in his Quixote-like quest to find ''the One.''

In one sentence I think it fairly well captures what most of the content is about. If you have read Don Quixote or read or seen the play “Man of La Mancha,” it’s pretty easy to grasp the idea. For those of you who have not, in a nutshell, Quixote was an endearing madman who attacked windmills as dragons, saw wenches in inns as damsels in distress within high turrets. His adventures were anything but adventures. They were misadventures and he followed them wherever they led him. That’s been my life for sometime now-- An insane series of misadventures, cumulatively a quest, that I follow, if for no other reason than to see where it takes me.

Recently, the quest returned me to a place where I had been before—Greater Atlanta, Georgia. During that misadventure, I met many people as mad as I may be and good to the very core of their bones. The same quest has led me back to this small town in the South where this entire site started. A new misadventure has begun and I again am following it to its illogical conclusion. Like any misadventurer, I am wistful and miss the people and places I left behind in Georgia, but a new chapter has opened. I am compelled to chase windmills here until the quest leads elsewhere.

Further, I want to discuss whether there is “The One” or not. My answer is I really do not know. No can say for sure whether there is or not, no one can know when, where and how it will happen. It happens in different ways to different people. In a madman’s misadventures it may be more than appropriate to seek “The One.” Who better than a madman with delusions of a great and heroic quest to seek a person who may or may not exist?

Am I insane? I suppose that depends on whose definition of sanity you might use. I don’t feel insane, but then most madmen do not. I do have misadventures and I try to handle them as sanely as I can muster. In any event, the quest continues as always, sanity be damned!

Aren't we all just a little bit insane?

Yeah, you're insane. But that's ok. And just part of your charm :o)

You're trying to trick us into saying "I think not" and thus ceasing to exist. Of course, anyone who actually said that, or more accurately, thought that, would already have ceased to exist and this we would never have known if they had but it would not matter because they would never have existed.

Yeah. You're the crazy one.

Everyone is a little bit crazy. Each person sees the world in their own way, which probably doesn't make much sense to anyone else. So be it.

I think (hope) sanity is over rated!

Howdy!

Welcome to my humble little corner of the blogosphere! Not too many rules here--love your neighbor, go easy on the brews, and don't shoot the jukebox. Make yourself at home and remember Momma don't like for you to put your feet on the kitchen table.
