A Single Southern Guy In America

November 27, 2003

Coolest. President. Ever.

Despite my deep support in some areas and deep misgivings in other areas, the President clandenstinely slipping away from his ranch in Crawford, Texas, under cover of darkness, and then flying into Baghdad to serve the troops Thanksgiving dinner has got to be one of the coolest things ever done.

Quote of the holiday:

"The President of the United States is AWOL, and we're with him. The ultimate road trip." Richard Keil, Bloomberg News

Second best quote of the holiday:

"I was just looking for a warm meal somewhere. Thank you for inviting me to dinner." President George W. Bush to the troops in Baghdad

Thanks to the troops this Thanksgiving.

While I'll admit that what President Bush did for today was very cool, I wouldn't say that he is the "coolest" president ever. Just off the top of my head, I think that Ronnie was a whole lot 'cooler' than W.

Lincoln was not cool... as you may agree ;-)
(though a lot of people here would probably disagree with that...)

I don't know for sure, but I think that Ike may have been pretty cool...

Anyway, I wanted to post this here (it's a similar message that I've posted at other blogs today, but it's true... and important for this occasion):

Adam, et. al.,

I hope that you and yours have had a good day so far, and that you have a great dinner. (We went out for lunch... I don't know what, if anything, we'll have enough room for tonight.)

There have been a lot of things going on in many of our lives, and in the Blogosphere as well, but today is supposed to be the day where we put aside our angst and worries, and observe and celebrate this day, while reflecting on the meaning of this occasion.

I hope that I can remember that...
And I hope that you, your family, and all of the other readers at your great site have an excellent day, and a pleasant, happy, and safe holiday weekend as well...

Happy Thanksgiving, and God Bless!

(and try not to eat too much turkey... ;-)
