November 26, 2003Twas The Night Before ThanksgivingHere it is the night before Thanksgiving and all through the house, at least three creatures are stirring and there's nary a mouse. My world's greatest pumpkin pie is in the oven. Mom and grandma both got a kick of watching me prepare the mix, the crust, and pour it into the shell. Grandma watched hawkishly to see if she decipher my secret recipe for making the world's greatest pumpkin pie. She may have picked up a few things, but I can move faster than he can watch. Both her and Mom secured photographic evidence. Mom is soaking the turkey and breaking up the crumbs for the dressing. Grandma is sitting at the table boning the bolied chicken which will make its way into the dressing, and I'm nibbling at the chicken fat and skin. Maybe I should fry it real quick in some bacon grease. Stepdad is in the living room watching Home Alone. I've been perusing my email since putting the pie in the stove. I brought home 4 bunches of autumnal arrangements that now grace the supper table with Harvest splendor. Soon. Mom will be frying an onion and then putting the dressing all together. The green bean casserole will probably be prepared tomorrow morning. Mom will get after the pecan pie after my pie is done. I can already taste the cranberry sauce tomorrow at dinner. I hear tale that the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving is one of the best nights to hit the town in the big city of Atlanta. After sitting in my momma's kitchen and living room for a couple of hours, I've decided they can have it. My Thanksgiving maybe no different than Thanksgiving preparations across the country. Still, to me, it's a Southern Thanksgiving and I love it. Here's hoping you're night before Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving Day is as good as mine has been so far. Happy Thanksgiving Friends! Howdy!
Welcome to my humble little corner of the blogosphere! Not too many rules here--love your neighbor, go easy on the brews, and don't shoot the jukebox. Make yourself at home and remember Momma don't like for you to put your feet on the kitchen table.
