November 10, 2003Blogger Brouhaha Wrap-UpMy second blogger meet-up in a week was a great pleasure. The Blogger Brouhaha was well attended by bloggers, their spouses, dates, and in my case, a guest and that guest's guest who had no idea of what a blog is until only a few days ago. In any event, I thoroughly enjoyed meeting all of the Atlanta area bloggers. The political viewpoints were as diverse as the stars in the sky. Funny thing is there was no shouting or folks getting cross ways. We all got along quite famously, I believe despite our divergent political opinions. Far out of my normal modus operandi, my guest Erin (whom you met in this comment) and I arrived early and were the first ones at Five Seasons. We were directed to the Greene table for fifteen and promptly retired to the bar to have a couple of drinks. My dear blog-sis Kelley arrived and joined us at the bar and slowly but surely the bloggers arrived. For a few moments, I felt like the welcoming committee due to the process of folks coming in and asking for bloggers and then the wait staff approaching me and asking if I was with the "logger" group (I'm guess that means we're still not mainstream--I was sure we were when our bartender in Dahlonega turned out to be a freshly started blogger). Eventually, a fairly sizable group of us had gathered at the bar and the restaurant staff began to threaten to take our table if we didn't take it as it was ten after seven. We returned to the table and shortly, Erin and I were joined by her friend Jenny, and we held down the far end of the table. Unfortunately, with around twenty folks spread along a long table I did not get to visit with everyone as much as I would have liked (we had the same problem at Caruso's in Dahlonega). However, I did have the chance to sit with Denny and have the nice visit that I missed at the Jawja Meet Up. As he has already discussed, we both have floated the Eleven Point River in southeast Missouri/northeast Arkansas and vividly remember the USMC retiree who ran the canoe rental store. For me, the Brouhaha was an interesting blend of experiences. Many of the bloggers who were there occupied a part of the blogosphere I normally do not travel through either because of politics, ignorance of, or any number of reasons. I found them to be exceedingly fine people to share a meal with and have a great conversation. It was also interesting to me in that I had brought a friend who brought a friend who were strictly not bloggers or blog readers. In retrospect, I was fascinated with the challenge of discussion among bloggers and discussion between Jenny, Erin, and I. All of this and frequent trips ouside to see the progression of the lunar eclipse (well, we know the moon is in that general direction, so the sun must be over there *points at an angle towards the pavement*) As the meal ended, we held a brief discussion regarding the development of an Atlanta blog authored by all of us. I immediately injected the money-making capacities of sucha venture so that we could handle the question of blog purity versus blogging for dollars in the early stages. We didn't resolve that issue, but at least it's out there at an early stage. As that discussion came to an end, I announced that a number of us would be adjourning to the sports pub Frankie's next door. While there I was able to get to visit with Greg and Jessica more than I did at 5 Seasons. Additionally, Denny and I spent some more time together and I can honestly say he had me in stitches at all times. As is tradition, we called up the Yeti who visited with Denny for a while as well. After the Frankie's post-party, the ladies and I carried on at American Pie until closing time. They were both presented roses for putting up with me and my fellow bloggers. Sunday morning hurt a little, but there was no headache and a good cup of Starbucks bold blend always hits the spot. For photographic evidence, head over to Reid's aka Photodude site where he has a number of good pictures from the evening. And, as always, at the end of the bloggers' social page it read,
From the best that I can tell, the following bloggers were all in attendance. Greg Greene, “El Burro,” Dwight Meredith, Denny Wilson, Michael Demmons, Mike Adkinson, Michal Wallace, Ricky West, Jim Flowers, Jeneane Sessum, John Adams, Jessica Harbour, Kelley, and Melanie. Comments
ummmmm, PLEASE tell me the color is bad in the pics and you weren't wearing a BURNT ORANGE color shirt????????????????????? Posted by: ho at November 11, 2003 02:20 PMI prefer to call it "autumnal orange." BTW, that was one hell of game your Aggies played against OU. Posted by: Adam at November 11, 2003 04:51 PMI see how it works, you buy the flowers for the ladies and then show off your chivalry to the world? Ah, as long as the other women out there are jealous. After all, Jennie and I did have other options that night, Denny seemed quite taken with us!! I must say that OK has a good possiblity of going down in the record books this week with my Baylor Bears!!!!!!! LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!! They might beat us by 100 points or more!!!!!!!! GO BEARS!!!!!! See? We will be in the record books for something! And, I told you the AGgies sucked after they have played like SHIT this whole season.... They're doomed without THE coach. Howdy!
Welcome to my humble little corner of the blogosphere! Not too many rules here--love your neighbor, go easy on the brews, and don't shoot the jukebox. Make yourself at home and remember Momma don't like for you to put your feet on the kitchen table.
