Blogger Impressions

Now that the recap is finished, let me share with you a little more about the bloggers in attendance.

Our waitress Nona has just started blogging and though I didn't get to visit with her much, I'll be happy to help her and welcome to her the blogosphere once I get her URL.

Angie is a young lady that joined us and has a blog with a secret URL or is about to start one. Still not sure which one it is. Regardless, this tall gorgeous drink of Georgia water has an economics degree and held her own with the best of us. I had a most wonderful time visiting with her and look forward to chatting with her soon.

Donnie intrigued me. I hadn't been reading his blog for very long so I didn't have the normal expectation vs. reality conundrum that I have had in the past. Regardless, he struck me as a sharp fellow, with a beautiful wife, who will be bringing some interesting things to the blogosphere. I didn't get to visit with him nearly enough and I had wanted to chat with him about all kinds of thing Army like flying over the Chattahoochee River, hearing a guy yell "TWO MINUTES!", to be followed with falling from the sky and landing in Alabama.

This was the first time I had met Kenny and I have visited his blog now. Kenny is a straight up good guy. He's the kind of guy we'd say back in the Army that you'd like to have covering your six.

Likewise, it was the first time I met Heather. She also intrigued me though I hadn't read her blog much. When I initially got there she was down with Acidman until her friend Rachel and her husband showed up. They then moved down by us and I got to visit with her a bit before I moved down by Acidman. I wish I could have got to visit with her more.

Eric had me rolling in stitches whether it was him describing (in muy detail) the finer points of "ball-spankin'", talking about my hat, or how he had expected me to be more "frat boy." We had great conversation and yeah, he was, a Marine, but I can say for certain that he has overcome most of the brainwash. Then again, ever since my buddy Mike went to Iraq, I've felt a whole lot different about Marines. I see future troublemaking in Eric's company.

Denny is the famous grouchy old cripple. It was a great pleasure to finally meet him. I have to agree with Acidman--he looked a lot younger than I expected, and though diabled, he definitely isn't a bitter decrepit image I had in my mind. I had him made out in my mind to be a bitter Alexander Pope type. Rather, he was as jovial and friendly a guy as you'll ever meet. He wasn't the loudest of us all, but much like his writing when he did talk he brought something worth listening to. Always.

Regular readers will know that I had already met Dax. Beyond the praises I've already thrown his way, I'll add this: Dax is the man. The more time I spend around him and the other usual supsect the more I realize how much we think alike, whether it be blogging, people, jobs, scenarios, etc. Further, I fell confident in calling him a friend. I know that if I needed anything while I was in Atlanta, I could give Dax a call and he'd help me out. Those who can count Dax as a friend are lucky people indeed.

Regular readers will also know that the other usual supsect and I have also met before. Why do you think we're the usual suspects? I'll never be able to communicate in a blog post, heck in a book, just how wonderful, sweet, and beautiful a person Kelley is. She's another that has my back and I have hers. Seriously, I think we're brother and sister or something. Again, lucky is the person who can call Kelley a friend.

Before we get to Acidman, let's talk about Georgia and Recondo32. What an incredible couple! Though they don't have blogs, they both should have their own. If they did they could put us all out of business in say, oh, a week. They took care of all of us and I loved them both. It's too bad they can't be my aunt and uncle. I'll have to settle for them as some new found friends. Heck, they even came up with a nickname for me--Scatter(the Rev. was the runner-up). I'm not sure if it alludes to me being scatter-brained or me having my clothes, keys, writing pads, and whatever else scattered all over the state of Georgia.

And that leaves the one and only Acidman. To be perfectly honest, my expectation of Rob was partially wrong. Is he as biting in his commentary as he is in his blog? You bet. Is he as sarcastic, and witty as he writes? For sure. However, I'm here to let out his secret. Rob is as nice a guy as you'll ever meet. That's right, some might even call him a puppy dog or a teddy bear among his friends. I can fully appreciate his writing so much more after meeting him. Rob is the kind of guy that will carry you on his back for miles with a broken ankle to help you if you need it. But if you ever cross him, it's your a**. There's a reason he calls the BC the BC. She crossed him. Before that, I can promise you, he went well out of his way to take care of her and love her.

All said, I met some great bloggers and made some new friends. If you have never met any other bloggers before, I highly recommend you make a point of it. When I worked in politics, it was after meeting the candidates and the backers that a much more thorough understanding of their published words and activities came to me. I find the same dynamic to be true of blogs and the bloggers who write them.

There is an Atlanta area blogger meet this Saturday that Kelley has told me about. Once she gets me the information, I'll post it and if you can make it I'd love to meet you.

It was a shame we couldn't mingle more, but hopefully we'll get together again, and get to know each other. Then again, you might hear all those nasty lies about me from Eric the Red, and not want to know me ! ;o)
