A Single Southern Guy In America

Killing Time

In case any of you were wondering, I’m still in Atlanta. It has been over a month now and there’s no indication of when (if) I’ll go home. Honestly, it has been a nice change of pace. I work a great deal more through the week, but the weekends are free. I’ve met some nice folks here, met a few bloggers, and I have got to visit with step-dad, Mom, and grandmother.

Sadly, Grandma hurt herself stepping off of a curb at church as she was getting into the car to go back to mom’s for our traditional Sunday roast. Mom called yesterday to let me know that the doctors had reviewed Grandma’s X-rays from her Sunday at the emergency room. She has compressed disks and a fracture of some sort. I spent Sunday night Grandma-sitting while step dad and Mom tended to a special church function.

I love my Grandma, but the poor lady is just plain old. Her bones are starting to wear thin and she just can’t get around like she used to move. Of course, it happens to all of us and the alternative involves a box and six feet of dirt between fresh air and us.

Lately, I have noticed a lot of the frailty of the world. The pope, bless his soul, doesn’t have much left. Two of my blogging pals are sick, Ronald Reagan is barely hanging in there, my oldest uncle died last week, my boss went to the doctor, and Michael Vick still hasn’t returned to the Falcons. As for me and folks my age, the hangovers hurt more than they used to (Thanks Hank Jr.), and my left ankle and right knee hurts. We’re all getting old and lest we forget, something reminds us. As Dax would say, Just Damn!

Yeah, I think I get sick more often than I used to. That may be due to the lovely Dallas smog, though. I guess turning 30 dosen't sound so bad, when you put it in perspective!

Hope you're enjoying Atlanta!! I hear it's lovely there this time of year.

And sorry to hear your grandmother's troubles. Yes, even I've been feeling old lately. And did you see Roger Clemens tottering along from base to base last night?
