A Single Southern Guy In America

September 28, 2003

Sunday Daze

While still recovering from the emotionally exhausting Arkansas-Alabama game (oh and for all you Tide fans who commented here, I say again, Woe Tide.), this afternoon will consist of purchasing a Texas Longhorns t-shirt to fulfill my bet with Holly, gathering up the pup, and running into the wilderness to hide in shame with such a shirt.

Actually, I will be going into the woods, but not out of shame. The apartment is smack dab in the middle of the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area in the northern metropolitan area. On my way to and from work I cross over Sopes Creek with the ruins of an old paper mill just off the side of the road. So the pup and I will venture over to the trails there and see what trouble we can get into.

And, I did get to meet the delightful Mrs. Robinson last night. Her and her suitor joined us midway through the Razorbacks game. Of course, it had to be when the Tide began to Roll in the 3rd quarter and she had to rub it in. However, my never say die Hogs let me have the last laugh and the two of them were treated to a number of Hog calls led by yours truly.

I must say I was rather embarrased as the two of them walked in and I didn't even notice they had sat down I was so engrossed in the game. She actually called my cell (which fittingly rang the Razorbacks fight song) as she sat not more than six feet away. I now realize I am becoming the male that has tunnel vision to the world when his football team is playing.

In any event, her suitor seemed to be a great guy and I hope to visit with him again. Mrs. Robinson is even more beautiful in person than in the pictures I have seen. Even, if she has gone blonde and you all know how I feel about that. Heh.

UPDATE: Via Matt, it appears that even Vicky got into the Razorback spirit, joining in on calling the Hogs in Fayetteville. The next step is to do it in a crowded sports bar in Atlanta.

That game was painful to watch. I couldn't believe Alabama was doing so well, then I couldn't believe that they totally blew it! At least the Titans won today :)

To hell with the football. If you are in Marietta why don't you stop by Dave and Buster's. They have beer and video games. It's enough to make even a tv and video game-averse woman like me go crazy like Santa Claus just paid a visit.

Adam,
My husband is from Little Rock and we met when we were both working in Fayetteville. In 99’ he took a job in North Carolina, and needless to say, football season has never been the same for him. We rarely get the Razorback games on the East Coast since we are not part of the SEC, so when he has a chance to watch them, he is glued to the TV. Last weekend he was screaming and carrying on so bad, when I went out to my car, my neighbor asked me if everything was ok? No problem, I said, my husband just turns into a raving lunatic when his college football team is playing. I just wanted to tell you thanks for your posts. We both miss Fayetteville so much, and reading your blog brings it just makes the memories a little sweeter.
