SportsBlog.Org

We’ve football blogged before, and rest assured there will be much trash talk regarding my Razorbacks and my Arkansas State Indians. However, for the sports enthusiasts among us blogger and the people who read them, there is now a place to go to get your one-stop fill of sports blogging—SportsBlog.org.

I’ve been honored to be included as a contributor on college football. I made my first post today on today’s games including commentary and picks. So if you have a moment, go take a look at the SportsBlog.

Arkansas Schmarkansas. I'll take my UW Huskies any day......

Posted by: beth at August 28, 2003 11:50 AM

Why do they still persist in calling it college football instead of minor-league football?

Posted by: TheYeti at August 28, 2003 01:23 PM

Because there aren't keggers every weekend in minor league ball.

Posted by: Adam at August 28, 2003 01:26 PM

Hook 'em Horns!!!!!!!!!!

Gig 'em Aggies (especially against the Horns)

Sic 'em Bears (I have to say this being Alumni - I really do hope they win one game and don't lost 40 something to zero this season)

Posted by: ho at August 28, 2003 02:28 PM

Sooooo, do you guys ever root for teams that win?

Posted by: beth at August 28, 2003 03:16 PM

Beth, Beth, Beth!!!!!!!! If your Huskies were in any kind of a REAL league, then we could talk .... PAC 10 Schmuck 10...... The only reason your team wins is because they play teams that don't have a chance anyways..... At least I am not a fair weathered fan!!!!!!! Must we compare history AGAIN with Texas teams vs. whomever??????? Please, you don't want to embarrass yourself like that.

I have also pasted a little something for your review - you know, in case you forgot!

Huskies can't hang on to early lead in 34-24 loss to Purdue

Posted by: ho at August 28, 2003 03:37 PM

Yeah, I'll give you that game...it really was bad. I grew up a Husky, work for UW and will always be...a Husky. During the Neuheisel period, I bit my tongue and kept rooting. Thank God for Gibby! Even when I lived back east I was a UConn Husky. This keeps me out of the family fray: Since they all live on the Georgia/'Bama border...the constant struggle for football domination rears its ugly head at family gatherings. You either like Tech, Georgia or 'Bama. There are no *other* teams. Except for that one in Florida that keeps winning.....

Posted by: beth at August 28, 2003 03:51 PM

Oh, woe be to she who tries to bring it with nothing back herself up--teams that win games? Ok how about this--

Bowl Games? Check yourself! You have to pull the entire state of Texas's bowl appearances together to try to match the Hog's five year bowl count. And you know what--you still don't add up. Factchecked you are--just read on...Last year, UA played in its fifth straight bowl game under Houston Nutt including three New Year's Day bowl appearances in that span
98 Season, Citrus Bowl
99 season, Cotton Bowl
00 season, Las Vegas Bowl
01 season, Cotton Bowl
02 season, Music City Bowl

Only SEC Western Division School and one of only three SEC schools (Florida and Tennessee) to play in three new year's day bowl games in the last five years.
Last year, The Razorbacks' played the fourth-toughest schedule in the nation (2002), including the toughest slate of any SEC team.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-----PIG---SOOIEEEEE!!!!!! RAZORBACKS!

Posted by: Adam at August 28, 2003 04:20 PM

PALEASE don't go there Adam.... we have already been there and I don't care to embarrass you again like that on here... I even had people agreeing with me!!!!!!

I will let you have your fun though for now!

Posted by: ho at August 28, 2003 04:57 PM

Not a Razorback in the bunch.....

8/27/03 - Football
Pickett Named to Unitas Watch List
Washington senior quarterback Cody Pickett is one 26 quarterbacks announced Wednesday as candidates for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. Pickett was the only quarterback on the list to throw for more than 4,000 yards last season. He set a Pac-10 single-season record with 4,458 passing yards. Central Florida's Ryan Schneider had the second most yards of the candidates with 3,770.

Again, sans Arkansas.....

And I realize my football education must be severely lacking, but WHERE is the Music City Bowl? Little Rock? Did a used car salesman/alumus finance it so you'd have an SEC record? Have y'all ever played a real bowl game? Say, the Orange Bowl or the Rose Bowl? You should try it sometime.....;)

Posted by: beth at August 28, 2003 05:38 PM

Gosh I hope you all have a sense of humor............

Posted by: beth at August 28, 2003 05:39 PM

Oh dear. Watch lists mean nothing this time of year sweetie. And yes, we do have a pre-season All-American, and several on other watch lists. Now, the Music City Bowl is hosted in none other than Nashville, TN. A fine city and far sight better than SEA-TAC.

Sure we've played in the Orange Bowl, Sugar, Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Cooton Bowl, etc., etc.

And while I disagree with Hol vehemently about her claims to Texas, I have to agree with her about the Pac 10--I mean really. The Pac 10 sounds more like an antiquated video game than a football conference. You want to know about football? Watch the SEC. I'll give the Big 12 their props--watch them. But I have to say if you want real, old fashioned, every Saturday, going to war, smashmouth football, look no farther than the SEC West aka the Wild, Wild West.

As for your watch lists, stick the following in your pipe and smoke it~~

-Arkansas had seven players on the watch lists for national awards: Shawn Andrews (Lombardi Trophy, Outland Trophy), Tony Bua (Butkus Award), Richie Butler (Ray Guy Award), Ahmad "Batman" Carroll (Jim Thorpe Award), Ken Hamlin (Jim Thorpe Award, Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Year), Lawrence Richardson (Jim Thorpe Award) and Fred Talley (Doak Walker Award)

-UA played in its fifth straight bowl game under Houston Nutt including three New Year's Day bowl appearances in that span

-UA led the SEC and ranked among the nation's leaders in rushing (218.9 ypg.) and turnover margin (+1.21 pg.)

-Tailback Fred Talley (1,119) became the eighth player in UA history to earn 1,000 rushing yards in a season

-UA boasted two First Team All-Americans (Shawn Andrews and Ken Hamlin) in the same season for the first time since 1988

-UA sophomore Shawn Andrews was selected by SEC Coaches as the Jacobs Trophy recipient (the award recognizes the most outstanding blocker in the SEC)

-Five UA players appeared on All-SEC teams (Shawn Andrews, Tony Bua, Ahmad Carroll, Ken Hamlin, Lawrence Richardson) with three (Andrews, Hamlin, Richardson) earning first-team honors

-Freshman De'Arrius Howard was named the ESPN.com SEC Newcomer of the Year and named to the Knoxville News-Sentinel's and The Sporting News' All-SEC Freshman team

-UA players won two SEC Defensive Player of the Week Awards (Tony Bua, Ken Hamlin), two SEC Special Teams Player of the Week Awards (David Carlton, Tom Crowder) and one SEC Offensive Player of the Week Award (Fred Talley)

-Arkansas appeared on television seven times during the 2002 season including five national broadcasts

Oh, and yes we do have a sense of humor! But be prepared--this is the only place you're allowed to flame others on my site. ; )

Adam - you're not blogging here why??????

Posted by: Kevin at August 28, 2003 08:44 PM

Man... you Americans and your college football... you need to be more apathetic, like us Canadians! 1000 fans to a university football game? We wish! :P

Go Warriors! :P

Posted by: Ryan Waddell at August 29, 2003 06:53 AM

My life would be really easy if only 1000 people showed up to the games.......
