A Single Southern Guy In America

Sports Shorts!

What a great few days in sports for your humble correspondent! Let's recap--

BOXING
Jermain "Bad Intentions" Taylor went the distance in a 12 round fight for the NABF Middleweight title against Freddie Cueras, winning 120-108.

FOOTBALL!
My beloved Arkansas Razorbacks report today and begin practice tomorrow. They will begin preparations to annihilate Tulsa on Sept. 6 before turning towards Austin and a slaughtering of the Longhorns.

Additionally, the Vegas odds makers are givine the Hogs odds on winning the national championship ranging from 35-1 to 20-1. Last year the range was 150-1 t0 75-1. We've come a long way, baby!

14 preseason NFL games since Thursday and two more games today. Both teams from Texas lost.

BASEBALL!
My hometown American Legion team walked away with the state championship yesterday. This exceeds their state AAAA high school championship from this spring as the competition in Legion ball includes teams from AAAAA classification.

My hometown minor leagur team, the Arkansas Travelers (Anaheim Angels) moved into a tie for first in the Texas League East division with a win over the Tulsa Drillers yesterday.

BASKETBALL!
I learned the Razorbacks basketball team will be allowed to open practice temporarily on August 20th to prepare for a foreign tour series in Cancun, Mexico, over Labor Day weekend. The Razorbacks are a rather young team with some incredible blue chip freshemen coming his fall. Every little bit of time the team competes together should bode well for the regular season.

Yes, I saw your comment about "both teams from Texas lost". Hey buddy, we are just taking things slow. Have to wait for the cooler weather..... Even though the Texans lost, I was quite impressed with the score.... it wasn't too bad. Of course, I had to watch just the highlights because we had to watch the damn Carolina Panthers game... I might be investing in digital cable or satelite to get the Football package.......

As far as college football! Baylor will have 1 week on your Razorbacks... hee hee.... just kidding, but I do have to say that Baylor might have a chance with Stanton (director of athletics) gone now.... YIPEE! My poor school just can't stay out of the news..... :)

Oh, and lucky for you, Baylor can't play in any post season games in basketball.... I think we should let the girls team play the men's post season games.... they could whip some A**!!!!
