August 07, 2003Wild Night Pt. 3 - The DanceI stood and took her hand. As she began to turn, I gently squeezed her hand, softly pulling her towards me.. She smiled coyly and looked into my eyes. NLF: Yes…..? A: We have one more thing to do before we go. NLF: And what would that be, Adam? A: We dance.
Turning towards the dance floor, we walked hand in hand. I led her to a spot that gave us just enough space away from the inebriated dancing compatriots. We faced each other and stared into each other’s eyes. Looking into her eyes, I saw the woman that first said “I Love You” to me. The lady who orchestrated one of the best birthday celebrations I had ever had the pleasure to be honored by, was near me once more. The lady I had prayed with before falling asleep was with me again. A partner who loved me for who I was and the promise of I would become looked into my eyes. In this moment, our love affair burned brightly once more. Both firmly and gently, I pulled her to me. My right hand settled in the small of her back; my left hand found her other hand; our fingers intertwined, finally resting on my chest over my heart. The strains of a George Strait song eased over us as we began to move as one. Our eyes never broke their mutual gaze. Darlin' all I have to do, is speak your name My lips lowered to hers. We kissed. It was a slow kiss of shared intimacy, of unhurried passion, of two lovers savoring every moment of a special connection. It was a kiss that only those who have shared the honor of glimpsing into each other’s souls can share. A kiss that exceeds the physical, the emotional, and the mental elements of a person. It was a kiss that tiptoed close to the ultimate realm lovers seek—the spiritual. The place a rare few are blessed to visit. It was a kiss that touched the soul. Our hands moved from over my heart. She reached to join her arms around my neck. My hand moved to that wonderful place between her neck and shoulder, lingering a moment. Our lips parted, and slowly my hand moved to her shoulder, easing down her arm to her elbow. Like smoothing a silk skirt, my hand slid to her back, slowly making its way to meet the other hand wrapped around her, holding her tightly. It was the embrace of lovers in love--even if for only the moment. The people around us, the song’s words and notes, everything around us melted away. In my mind, in my heart, there was only her and I. The scene around us dissipated like fog on a Southern summer morning. The clarity of the moment revealed only the two of us. We were one and utterly oblivious to anyone or anything around us. It was N and I and nothing else mattered or intruded upon the temporary utopia we reveled in. I was there, she was there, and nothing else existed. I was N and N was me. As is apt to happen, the song ended. We stood there holding each other, gazing and searching each other’s eyes. It was a moment we both wished would never end, but knew it had. I searched for the right words to say. A: N, I l-…. N: What? A: I-…It’s so good to be with you again…. N: It’s good to be with you too. A: Let’s go home. N: Let’s.
