July 16, 2003More Paris Hilton and Nicole RichieFor the regular readers, please pardon this segue back to the Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie topic. Since I get a great deal of hits from search engines looking for Paris and Nicole, I'm going to feed the monster a bit. A couple of nights my good friend TH and I were at the pub and his cousin was in town from Ozark, AR. For those unfamiliar with Arkansas (i.e. 296 million U.S. citizens), Ozark is not far from Altus, Arkansas, where Paris and Nicole filmed their upcoming reality TV show, "The Simple Life." Anyways, TH's cousin plays in a gospel band of some sorts and was on stage at the Mayfest when the winners of the baby pageant and Little Miss were announced. In any event, he met them and agreed that they were quite cordial and charming. Of course, he is of the opinion that the show is designed to make us look like a bunch of backward hillbillies. I am still reserving judgement until I see the show. I am slowly coming to the opinion that if backward hillbilly antics were caught on tape, not edited in, then show it. On the other hand, I have been told by several sources that the show will actually make the girls seem ridiculous. For example, Paris wanted to bring blue jeans and sweatshirts since she was going to the countryside. The producers axed that idea and told them what they would wear. Thus, you will see apparel that is far out of place for Altus, Arkansas. Probably, when the series airs I will write about the reality of reality tv shows. They were one of my daughter's high school basketball team's arch rivals....we beat 'em one in regular season, once in the regionals finals, but lost to 'em in the state finals championship game. Most of the parents were right nice people, but whooo-ie! They take b-ball real serious down there. BTW, their high school mascot is the Hillbillies. But you probably already knew that.
