July 09, 2003A new taboo for Helping Folks Out©In the article about “booty calls” I cited yesterday, there are number of rules for the “booty call” system. I generally agree with those rules and believe they could be applicable to the Helping Each Other Out© system. However, there is an instance I would add as taboo in the Helping Each Other Out© program. Read on to find a real life example-- A: (name of company), this is A. GEL: Hey what are you doing? A: Just working away, what are you up to. GEL: Oh, not a lot, really. A: (quickly checking the two ladies who sit in his area to see if they’re eavesdropping) Did you find me 10 acres yet? GEL: I sure did. A: Really? Where? GEL: On Highway ### North of town. A: How much are they asking? GEL: It’s too expensive. They want ten grand an acre. A: Yeah, that’s too much for this project. It could still work, but we don’t need to spend that much. GEL: Yeah. A: S what else is going on? GEL: Well, I was just thinking of you… A: Really, now. That’s sweet. GEL: I just wanted to call and tell you that I’m yearning for you right now. A: You’re what? GEL: RIGHT NOW, I’m yearning for you. A: (watching co-worker ladies) Wow. Well, uhm, I’m ahh, well, I can say that the feeling is mutual. GEL: What are you doing right now? A: Well, I’m at work. GEL: Can you leave for a little bit? A: What? GEL: Can you leave work for a little while? A: No, not really. GEL: (purring) Not even for a little bit, I’m really yearning for you. GEL: Well, okay then, I’m just yearning for you. A: Me too. Thanks for calling though. I’ll see you soon.
However, when you get the call at work, you can’t leave, and you know that your Helping Each Other Out© partner is sitting hot and bothered some where, needing the attention you have to offer, it is not a good feeling. Did I mention the awkwardness of taking a “booty call” within easy earshot of co-workers? When one issues a call for Help© at an inappropriate time (like during the workday), it frustrates both people. One because their call for Help©, goes unanswered and unfulfilled. Two, because the call-ee is now wanting to Help© and is unable to offer and thereby get the Help© they now need. Three, because It Is Your Duty, As An American©, and no one wants to fail to do their duty. Lesson point: Do not call for Help© when your Helper© is at work and cannot leave. "Yearning" sounds a bit strange. I don't think I would have left work either. Posted by: Glovia at July 10, 2003 07:28 AMPriorities. Depending on my mood, I might suddenly become a whirlwind of phonecalls and schedule meetings that were 45 minutes away. And then get stuck in traffic;) Man, I don't get those phone calls anymore. Howdy!
Welcome to my humble little corner of the blogosphere! Not too many rules here--love your neighbor, go easy on the brews, and don't shoot the jukebox. Make yourself at home and remember Momma don't like for you to put your feet on the kitchen table.
