How BK Is Trying To Lose Me In Ten Days

How BK Is Trying To Lose Me In Ten Days

Yesterday was an interesting one in the soap opera meets reality that is commonly known as my life. In any event, I'm happily working away at the job when an email comes from BK saying she has tickets to the Razorback game in Fayetteville on 3/1 and would I want to go? My very honest reply is that I would love to if I don't have to go to Atlanta for an upcoming senior staff meeting on the same day. Meanwhile, NLF is emailing nothing emails, which, if nothing else, are sweet. More on NLF later.

BK in apparent shock after I did not respond with a hearty and resounding YES upon offering me tickets to a game of a team that I dearly love to watch and at their homecourt still yet, emails back with 'work on a Saturday, your boss calls you at 10:30 Saturday night, etc, this is all sounding really weird and it's setting off warning bells.' Weird from the same BK who had a Valentine card and book of poetry entitled 'Love Poems' ready to present to me after only two "hanging out' dates. So, I reply with a not quite scathing, but firmly worded message that explains that it is par for the course with our young, hungry, and growing company to have odd meeting days and calls at any time. I use several examples of incidences that have occurred to me and others in the company to drive home the point. By the time I had returned from lunch, she had sent two "I'm Sorry" emails...

Meantime, NLF has continued to exchange brief meaningless, but sweet, emails with me.

To be sure, I was bit irritated about the entire 'alarm bells ringing' and 'having doubts creeping' email. In any event, I cannot bring myself to reply to the emails as I was busy at work and just didn't feel like addressing the issue. Besides, within a few hours she'd be on her home computer and im'ing me. Which is when she asks what plans I have for the actual day of my birthday this year. Since it falls on a Wednesday, I'll probably celebrate the weekends before and after.

But for the actual day....After checking the day to find out that it was indeed Wednesday I reply with "probably sleeping." Her idea is to cook a dinner for me, drive down and share dinner and spend at least part of the evening together. Granted, it is a very sweet and gracious thought and would be a wonderful birthday gift. HOW-EV-ER, I've known her for about 10 days. Honestly, it is very flattering and sweet that she has done all these things, but let's give the thing time to grow. Instead, it seems like we have a seedling fed with a triple dose of ammonium nitrate (very strong fertilizer).

Still, she doesn't realize that the person who called last Saturday night while we were out was indeed calling from my boss's phone, but it wasn't my boss. That's right, it's the boss's daughter,KL, who had kept me out till 4 a.m. last Thursday and made me think I was going to lose my job. She was still in town that night and wanted to go out....Obviously, that wasn't possible as I was two hours away and already out, but we agreed to email. Updates on that if I ever hear from her.

Complicating matters for the 3/1 game and/or staff meeting is that I had previously committed a portion of that day to NLF for coffee or something. Course, one never knows exactly how or if that will turn out, but I can't help it--NLF does something to me and I can't break that spell. I need to find the kind wizardess of some damn direction to swoop down and break that spell, but until then I'll hear a Norah Jones song and think of her. Maybe KL will email back and I can just forget it all and head to Dallas to see if she can break the spell....

BK has already emailed today to see if I want to do something this weekend. I need to answer her back, but I need to call or email one of the twins (T&T) to see if this is the birthday weekend we're all supposed to get together. How I will handle telling BK I'm going to a b-day party where I am one of 4 people being feted and not asking her to come along is the unknown mystery of the day...
