February 24, 2003Speaking of cold, inclement weather
I received an email from NMF this afternoon. This one follows the email sent approximately 9:30 p.m. on Friday while I was out with friends playing pool and drinking beer. I sometimes wonder if she times those kinds of emails specifically in case I happen to be on a date. She apologizes for not emailing as often, been very busy with the farm, brother is food poisoned by oysters, etc. I came to the conclusion while fighting a migraine Saturday that I'll never be able to be with her regardless of how much of a thing we have for each other. She has too many family issues to start with and one would first have to rescue her from the overbearing control of her mother and brother (there's a year long task). Then, one would have to work through rescuing her from herself (another year). Next thing you know, you've wasted years on someone who may not even want to be rescued. Before I hear any of these "you can't rescue someone, they can only make that decision and rescue themselves" comments, I'll quickly say that I know I can't. But, I can be of assistance if I really care for the person. And I do. I really care a lot for her despite the fact that I know Hank Williams, Sr. was in a prophetic way singing about her when he wrote "Cold, Cold Heart." Incidentally, I was tickled to find a moving rendition of the same on Norah Jones of late Grammy fame. I watched the Grammy's last night for the first time in years. I did because I was pulling for Norah and the Dixie Chicks and Eminem. I know--pretty strange combo, but I just like different kinds of music. Still, I had discovered Norah Jones a couple of months ago and have been wearing her CD out since then. In fact, NMF and I had talked about her and us both being fans. I think about her so often on so many of those songs...I sent her a copy of the the CD on Valentine's Day. Amazingly, I never said a word about love or anything near it in the entire package of unique gift items. The only and best way I have ever heard how I feel about NMF was captured in the greatest golf movie of all time--Tin Cup. In a scene where his caddy Romeo and Cup have made back up, Cup is hitting balls on his driving range. After hitting a 'chili-dipper' (which is the first sign of Cup catching the golf bug known as the shanks), he turns to respond to Romeo who has just mentioned the Dr. Lady who Cup has a crush on and says, "Something about that chick. Just something about chick." Something about her (NMF), indeed. Posted by Adam H at February 24, 2003 03:30 PM ~ Link Cosmos | Trackbacks (0)Comments
